EU-INDIA ENERGY DIALOGUE

 
 

Speaking at a policy dialogue on Energy Security in the EU and India in New Delhi on the 22nd of January, the European Union's Ambassador to India Tomasz Kozlowski listed energy security and climate change as the two main drivers of EU energy policy. An Energy Union, he said, would require energy supply to be 'secure, sustainable and competitive', requiring 'a fundamental transformation of Europe's energy system'. The policy dialogue was organised jointly by the Global Relations Forum, Delhi Policy Group and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.

EU FINALISES FTA WITH VIETNAM  

The EU has negotiated a Free Trade Agreement with Vietnam, which is now available online. While creating business opportunities for EU firms in a country of over 90 million people, the Agreement envisages support Vietnam's transition to a more competitive and sustainable economy. Participating at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, Research and Innovation Commissioner Moedas averred that the 4th industrial revolution could not take place without the contribution of interdisciplinary frontier research leading to innovation in European industry and manufacturing such as being promoted through the grants of the European Research Council (ERC). EU WELCOMES INCREASED ACCESS TO INDIAN MARKET FOR APPLES

Agriculture and Rural Development Commissioner Phil Hogan has welcomed the agreement that European producers can get their apples into the Indian market through sea ports and airports in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Cochin, as well as the airport in Delhi. The importation of apples is also allowed through India’s land borders. EU exports of apples to India amounted to only around 7,000 tonnes in 2014, mainly from Italy, France and Belgium. Although provisional figures for 2015 show a considerable increase to around 11,000 tonnes, India has the potential to absorb a higher share of EU exports given its moderate domestic apple production. ...read more>>
